It is an honor to meet you.
(a brief anthology)
My parents met on the grounds of Mayan ruins in Mexico, and upon my birth, chose the name Maya for me.This holds a special magic that I cherish deeply and that has had a significant and special impact on my life.
I was fortunate to spend time during college studying in France, connecting with the culture of my heritage. This experience opened my path to more exploration and travel.
My entire career, spanning more than twentyfive years, has been devoted to studying, practicing and weaving the healing arts into my life. In 1997, I graduated from a comprehensive therapeutic massage and somatic healing program in Santa Fe, NM. During that time, I apprenticed with an aromatherapist and perfumer and began making products for my clients. I also spent a year apprenticing with a plant medicine healer from Peru. Additionally, I spent five years studying Mayan Abdominal Massage with traditional Mayan healers, as well as Rosita Arvigo, in the jungles of Belize. I was graced with the teachings of many traditional healers who carried wisdom from long lineages of traditional medicine. From there, I went on to study herbal medicine with the incredible Michael Moore and continued clinical herbal studies in British Colombia and California. I have studied Ayurveda and Yoga, and was certified as a 200 YTT Yoga instructor. I enjoyed a thriving bodywork practice in Kalamazoo, MI for 11 years, utilizing all of the knowledge of my studies to offer comprehensive and therapeutic sessions. In 2010, I became a doula after the home birth of my son, and have accompanied several women and families through the passage of pregnancy, labor and delivery.
After a particularly difficult time in my life, I sought out therapeutic support that would help me understand the deeper layers within that had continued to impact me and all of my relationships; personal, business, and familial. The experiences I had on that journey of inner discovery were profound and the most transformative and liberating I had yet known. This led me to study and now practice these incredible modalities. I have studied Hakomi, Relationship Somatic Healing and graduated from the Center for Consciousness Medicine.
I have deep reverence for the relationships of teacher and student, and I am honored to have learned from and studied with incredible humans who carry healing in their lineage. I honor these lines, and carry them with me with every step I take.
I am a proud mother of three amazing children and bow deeply to the mysterious path of parenting. I have called the Sierra Nevada Foothils home since 2008, though my travels eternally continue to shape and enrich my life.
I honor the unique and complex expression of each human and meet each client with curiosity and respect. I am honored to use the tools of wisdom and knowledge that I carry within to support my clients to remember who they truly are.
